Haywire are an anarchist punk
rock band from the South of England. We started off in Weymouth, Dorset
in the 80s and during the 90s relocated to Southampton.
We have featured on loads
of compilation tapes in the past, as well as featuring on the first ever
A SCREAM FROM THE SILENCE LP released by Looney Tunes records. Tapewise
we did "Blood Money", "Freedom?" and "Civilised?".
In more recent years we brought out two 7" EPs (see below).
So why haven't we released more?
Well, apart from primarliy being a live band, we have often had to focus
on other issues: members moving, being homeless, having kids, being on
police curfew, getting sent to prison, being more involved with other
issues such as squatting, hunt sabbing, animal rights, anti-roads &
anti-capitalist demos. This is reflected in our music, as the lyrics
reveal.
We have gigged extensively, the
majority being benefit gigs, and done somewhere in the region of 200 gigs
at a rough guess!! (summer 2000)

Sample lyrics:
Death cycle
Can you not
see it's all connected? The millions killed in wars, the animals vivisected,
the starving in the third world, McDonalds burger bars, the victims of
the slaugherhouse and the men who drive big cars? Playing god with animals,
playing god with men their disregard for life manifests itself again.
They sit so high in judgement but think how hard they'll fall...they'll
never stop our struggle, they can't defeat us all.
Will the earth
be inherited by the meek when all that power is used to stop us speak
of the things in this world we see as unjust. I'm not saying we should,
I'm saying we must, do what we can to right the wrongs - be it on the
streets or in our songs...open people's eyes to the evil we see so they
too will fight this insanity.....
Insanity of
governments and multinationals who seek to exploit not only me and you
but people and animals everywhere. Stop the talk, take action..... if
you really fucking care.
